Rattan Cantilever Chair
A faithful tribute to Marcel Breuer’s 1928 Cesca Chair, the Rattan Cantilever Chair brings Bauhaus design heritage into the modern Australian home. Its weightless cantilever silhouette and natural cane webbing read as quietly iconic without dominating the room.
Built on a polished stainless steel cantilever frame — no rear legs, the spring of the steel takes your weight, just as Breuer designed. Seat and backrest are solid ash wood frames inlaid with hand-woven natural rattan cane in the traditional Vienna-weave pattern. Available in a natural ash or black finish, with a custom option also available on pre-order. Each chair is finished by hand; subtle variation in the cane is part of the character.
Suited to daily dining, occasional seating in studies and reading nooks, or as accent chairs paired with a writing desk. The cantilever construction gives a very slight, comfortable flex underweight — a Breuer hallmark, not a fault.
Care
Vacuum the cane occasionally with a soft brush; avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the natural colour. Wipe the stainless steel frame with a damp microfibre cloth. Spot-clean spills on the cane with a slightly damp cloth and allow to air-dry.
